Frequently Asked Questions

What is this site about?

This site is an attempt to create a near-exhaustive/comprehensive list of feminist texts, as well as an online library/recommendation for women creators and books on women's history and women's topics. I would like to make it very easy for any random person to find particular feminist texts, or to find a new woman writer, or to learn about some historical woman they'd never heard of before.

Because much of women's history has been obscured or ignored, it is easy for every generation of women to believe they are the first to be enlightened about women's conditions. The truth is that in every time period in every place on earth, women have sought, within the means available to them, to be creative, to be leaders, to seek knowledge, to have power and influence. I believe it is important for us to not dismiss previous generations of women as 'weak', and simultaneously to not romanticize or downplay the limitations that women had to deal with. When we carry this knowledge of women's history with us, we feel less alone.

Who are you?

Irrelevant. Just someone who wants women to be free.

Does listing someone here mean you agree with them?

Because my goal is to create an online record of feminist and woman's intellectual history, there will undoubtedly be people here who you will not agree with, and many who I find distasteful, offensive, or just plain wrong. This is not meant to be a curated list.
